King Laurin

The big mountain situated in the west side called "Rosengarten" (garden of roses). All the legends about this fairy place have as protagonist King Laurin.
This dwarf lived in a beautiful castle on the mountain. His richness and his beautiful garden were famous even in Verona, at the court of Theodoric the great, the king of the Goths. This decided to compete with King Laurin and to challenge him to a duel. Theodoric left Verona with his knights (there were the famous Hildebrand and Dietlieb, too) and moved to the reign of King Laurin.
Dietlieb's sister, Simhild, had disappeared some time ago and the hero hoped to find her at the dwarf's court. As they got to the mountain they were astonished by the beauty of the garden and could not stand the temptation of entering it. King Laurin, furious for the affront he had suffered, attacked the invaders and defeated them. Suddenly Simhild run out of the castle and implored King Laurin to save his enemies. Laurin accepted and invited them to dinner; but during the meal he mixed some sleeping draught to his guests' wine. As soon as they fell asleep Laurin provided to fasten them and to put them into prison. Simhild helped the Goths again and let them escape. There was a second fight and king Laurin was defeated. The dwarf swore that nobody would see his garden anymore, neither by day nor by night. But he forgot the sunset…
